Slug'o'metric Devices (FIELDCLUB)

2007 - 2009

A series of sculpture/tools exploring the endemic slug problem faced by gardeners, horticulturists, and agriculturalists in mild wet climates like Cornwall, UK. The devices employ progressively more complex technologies to perform the same task - to undertake and simultaneously quantify slug death.

As each device becomes more accomplished in its use of technics the user becomes further removed from the action of the device, finally giving the responsibility of killing the animal to a third party. The progression mirrors the development of technological interfaces between the human and the non-human in the realm of agricultural production.
